FROM THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR

Annual Golf Outing Sets New Record

While June 21st may be the official first day of summer, at RISCPA, the season commences with the Society’s annual Golf Outing.

This year, July 11th was the date for the 19th Annual event. The venue: the Warwick Country Club. This year’s event drew a remarkable 144 golfers including the region’s leading CPAs, attorneys, financial professionals and other friends of the profession. An additional group of supporters joined our evening cocktails and dinner after golf, bringing the total number to 170!

This year’s RISCPA charity was the Hope Alzheimer’s Center of Cranston marking the first of a three year commitment where we will dedicate a portion of the proceeds to the Center.

Putting on an event like ours requires a number of moving parts helped by a number of special people and affiliated companies. First, thanks are in order for the sponsors: TD Bank, title sponsor; Bryant University, our lunch sponsor and Citizens Bank, who sponsored our cocktail hour.

Next the RISCPA Social Committee, as chaired by Ned McCrory. RISCPA’s dynamic staff comprised of Denise Jacobson, Ellen DeCataldo and Susan Breen for their expert assistance, coordinating savvy and professional follow through.

This year, based on our collaborative arrangement with Johnson & Wales University, we were favored with staffing assistance from five competent, enthusiastic and affable students. A special thank you to accounting majors: Greg Harvey, Lynette Martinez, Maggie Brunelle and Elizabeth Fallon; and criminal justice major, Brittany Beaulieu. We also would like to acknowledge members of the JWU community for their wonderful support: Dr. David Mitchell, Dean of the College of Business, professor Donna Viens, Chair-Department of Accountancy, and Elizabeth Cannata, associate professor and RISCPA Board member.

Most certainly, we would like to extend our appreciation to our members and to their professional colleagues for the continued commitment to what has become an important summer event for the professional community. Included in this edition are a number of photos from the successful event.

In preparation for the height of our fall and winter CPE season, the staff has been actively processing course registrations. While the bulk of our courses have been traditional eight hour (primarily) and four hour (secondarily) sessions held at RISCPA, we’re encouraging everyone to review the RISCPA web site/catalogue for on line webinar and for self study courses. Both options can certainly serve to complement your professional focus and course selection.

The date of our membership Day and associated Fall Networking event is October 4th. Please reserve the date as details will be available in the coming weeks.

On behalf of the RISCPA staff, wishing you the best of summer seasons.
